Launch of Oui Design
The Cultural Services of the French Embassy announced the launch of Oui Design, a groundbreaking program created to enhance French-American cooperation in the field of design. This program will run in New York in 2016 and 2017, with additional projects taking place in the major U.S. metropolises Boston, Chicago and Miami.
This program is made possible by the support of Institut français-Paris, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, and the Florence Gould Foundation.
Engaging multiple partners on both sides of the Atlantic, and from all domains within design, Oui Design is an innovative, multifaceted platform for artistic exchange. Its diverse events and projects range from workshops, exhibitions and talks, to debates, residencies, and much more. Oui Design works with a wide swath of artists, artisans, curators, designers, inventors, and researchers, and is open to anyone interested in design. This program will expose American audiences to the fast-evolving field of French design with unprecedented diversity, richness, and interactivity.
The theme for the first year of Oui Design is Innovation and Savoir-Faire, which has sparked a wealth of diverse design projects, and led to a number of fruitful collaborations.
The first event of the program is already underway: Ionna Vautrin's magnificent costume collection entitled Le bestiaire is on display at FIAF Gallery through April 2. Following this, Oui Design will present a series of projects at WantedDesign, which hosts marquee events during NYCxDESIGN from May 3 to 17, 2016. Finally, director of French design studio YMER&MALTA, Valérie Maltaverne, will give a presentation at the Cooper Hewitt, while the Museum of Arts and Design will screen a series of films by designers, curated by Alexandra Midal.
The Oui Design logo was designed by French graphic artists Antoine Audiau and Manuel Warosz (Antoine+Manuel). In their work, A+M often use typography and illustrations to make collages and photo reconstructions with a surrealist or dreamy flair. For Oui Design, A+M designed a contemporary, dynamic graphic that evokes architecture, typographic drawing and contemporary design.
More information about the programming for Oui Design will be released soon; check back on our website for updates.
