Olivier Mosset Exhibition Wraps Up at the Embassy

Thursday November 21 marked the close of Olivier Mosset’s Exposition de Groupe at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy. The double exhibition, co-presented by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and The Kitchen (on view until Dec 21), synthesizes various currents in Mosset’s artistic and personal life, incorporating films of New York art bands and Country and Western groups, as well as Serge Bard’s film, Fun and Games for Everyone, documenting post May of ’68 Paris. The spirit of collaboration is reflected in the exhibition title, Exposition de Groupe, or Group Exhibition

Over three hundred and fifty visitors came to see the installation at the Embassy during its three week run, from October 31 to November 21. Some were already familiar with the work of the Arizona-based Swiss artist and some discovered Mosset’s work for the first time, beckoned by the poster of a motorcycle at the entry to 972 5th Avenue. Upon entering, visitors first encountered a video collaboration by Mosset, Amy Granat, and Drew Heitzler, before proceeding to the salon, which featured minimalist paintings and customized motorcycles.

The exhibition was unique in its use of the Embassy building on 5th Avenue as a venue, but there will be more opportunities to visit if you missed this one. Check back for more contemporary art events presented by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, including a Platform on Visual Arts in April 2014, featuring 35 events in more than twenty venues in New York City. 972 5th Avenue will also serve as a venue for some of the events in the Embassy’s Danse festival, a festival of contemporary dance, in May 2014.
