Communications Assistant (Temporary)

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy is seeking a part-time Communications Assistant from October 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. 

Candidates must be able to legally reside in the United States and work for the Embassy of France in New York/MCUFEU. (Candidates must hold either a VISA-A, Green Card, or American citizenship. They may also have temporary working papers while awaiting an already-appointed Green Card.)

Job Description

  • The Communications Assistant will support the Communications team of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States located in New York. The team consists of an Interim Director of Communications, a Press Attaché, and 2-1 interns.
  • The Communications Assistant will provide support via writing, translation, research, and general oversight, and will assist in social media management. He/She will work on projects of the Cultural Services and Albertine at both the local and federal level.
  • The Communications Assistant will work 3 days/week for a total of 20 hours/week.
  • The schedule will be finalized with the Communications Director according to the candidate's availability and the Cultural Services' needs. 


  • Proofreading and copy-editing press releases and communications materials; translations (English-French and French-English)
  • Research and oversight of weekly press review and other press-related projects
  • Strategy and creation of social media content for @FrenchCultureUS and/or @AlbertineBooks
  • Graphic design work for communications/press
  • Management of website in collaboration with the Cultural Services' teams, including proofreading and creation of content for FrenchCulture.org and Albertine.com

Required Skills

Desired/required professional experiences:

  • Knowledge and/or curiosity of French and American cultural and educational landscapes
  • Knowledge of the French and American media landscapes
  • Knowledge of communication tools and strategies (both on- and offline)
  • Advanced editorial and translation capabilities
  • Intimate knowledge of social media marketing strategies (sponsored and not)
  • Knowledge of IT software (Pack Office, Adobe Suite, Cision, Sprout)
  • Prior experience in institutional and/or cultural communication, as well as knowledge of social media and community management, are apprecited

Language requirements:

  • French (reading, speaking, writing): advanced professional level
  • English (reading, speaking, writing): bilingual

  • Initiative, proactiveness, and discretion

Terms of Employment 

The part-time Communications Assistant will be compensated $2086/month (20 hours/week).
