Communications Intern

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy is seeking a part-time Communications Intern from February through June 2021. 

Job Description

The selected candidate will support the Communications Department at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York. This individual will contribute to several different projects via writing, translation, research, and social media production and management.


  • Planning and production of social media content for @FrenchCultureUS and/or @AlbertineBooks social media channels across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram 
  • Writing, proofreading, and copy-editing press releases and communication materials; translations (English > French)
  • Research and oversight of weekly press review and other press-related projects
  • Management of website in collaboration with the Cultural Services' teams, including proofreading and creation of content for FrenchCulture.org and Albertine.com

Required Skills

Professional Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
  • Experience managing social media presence for brands or organizations 
  • Advanced editorial and translation capabilities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Knowledge of at least 2-3 of the following tools is required: Adobe InDesign, Cision, Sprout Social, Mailchimp, and/or WordPress 
  • Interest in photography and/or photo editing is a plus 
  • Knowledge and/or curiosity of French and American cultural and educational landscapes
  • Knowledge of the French and American media landscapes

Language Requirements:

  • French (reading, speaking, writing): advanced professional level
  • English (reading, speaking, writing): bilingual


  • Ability to write punchy, engaging, and clear copy for social media and press 
  • Highly organized (ability to maintain a complex and ever-changing social media calendar) 
  • Strong time management and task management skills   
  • Collaborative team player

  • Initiative, proactivity, and discretion


This position is open to a student enrolled full-time in an American university. Please note that we cannot accept candidates who have already graduated from university, high school students, or students who require a visa to work in the United States. 

Working Conditions

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the intern will work remotely; however, she/he must be located in New York City. Communications will be ensured via Zoom meetings and e-mails. In case of a return to in person work of other staff, the intern will be offered to either keep on working remotely or at the Embassy.

The Communications Intern will work 3 days/week for a total of 20 hours/week. A mutually convenient weekly schedule will be determined on the candidate's start date.

Pleae note that this is an unpaid position, but we are happy to work with the selected candidate to secure school credit.
