French Awards in Contemporary Art

In France this Fall, four French Artists were awarded during the FIAC week.

On October 9, 2017, the members of the jury of the Meurice Award, awarded the artistic-olfactory project of the young artist Morgan Courtois which will give birth to a first fragrance, Fond de sac, in 2018.

Every year during the FIAC, the Ricard Award supports an emerging artist active on the French scene. Laureate of the 19th edition, Caroline Mesquita puts the raw monumentality of carved metal in dialog with video fictions involving both sculptures and humans.The Foundation will offer a work by the prize-winner to the Centre Pompidou Collection. The artist will also benefit from a two-month residency in partnership with FLAX (France Los Angeles Exchange) Foundation in 2018.

Finally on October 16th, the jury of the Marcel Duchamp Award founded by the ADIAF rewarded the Lebanese duo of artists Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige for their project Discordances / Uncomformities. The artists presented an installation dealing with personal memory and urban sites that they excavated by coring, revealing the strata of their respective histories. This award will lead to a show in Centre Pompidou.
