Étant donnés Contemporary Art is the only French-American fund for contemporary art. Initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and FACE Foundation, with the support of leading partners and sponsors, it aims to foster collaborations between visual artists, curators and institutions on both sides of the Atlantic.
We are happy to announce the 15 grantees selected this year by Etant donnés Artistic Committee for projects taking place between June 2018 and June 2019.
8 American institutions received a grant for exhibitions involving French or France-based artists: Contemporary Art Center (New Orleans) for a solo show of Ulla von Brandenburg; Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland for a solo show of Cyprien Gaillard; Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, for a solo show of Tatiana Trouvé; Front International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art for a solo show of Guillaume Leblon; Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit for a Supports/Surfaces group show; MIT List Visual Arts Center (Cambridge) for a solo show of Kapwani Kiwanga; The Moody Art Center (Houston) for a solo show of Michel Blazy; and The Bass Museum of Art (Miami Beach) for a solo show of Sheila Hicks.
4 French artists were awarded the Residency grant: Pierre Paulin will be in residency at The Emily Harvey Foundation (New York, NY) for his project Perfumes from New York; Arnaud Dezoteux, will be in residency at Mayeur Projects (Las Vegas, NM) for his project The New Kid; Boris Chouvellon, will be in residency at the Show Gallery (Los Angeles, CA), for his project “Cruising on empty”; SMITH, will be in residency at the E.A.R.T.H. Lab, University of California in Santa Cruz, for her project Desideration.
3 curators received a Curatorial fellowship for upcoming research trips in France : Kristan Kennedy (Portland Institute for Contemporary Art) , Kristine Kuramitsu (The Mistake Room, Los Angeles), and Natasha Marie Llorens (Columbia University in the City of New York).
