It's a Wrap! Tilt Kids Festival 2017

After six weeks of fun and creative experiences, the second edition of Tilt Kids Festival, initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), ended on April 16, 2017.

With multiple performances and events, from theater to dance parties, music concerts, innovative workshops, conversations, and visual art installations, the multidisciplinary festival presented adventurous and playful new work from celebrated French and International artists through family-friendly events.

Thousands of children and families in New York joined us for this artistic journey to discover, play, imagine, think, create, and explore more about French arts and culture with leading cultural institutions throughout the city including The Invisible Dog Art CenterNYU Skirball Center for the Performing ArtsBrooklyn Public Library, and Met Museum.

This isn't trash invited children to discover wildly imaginative illustrator Hervé Tullet's first-ever exhibition of new works in New York.

Tesseract, a gravity-defying performance by Nacho Flores proposed a new kind of circus.

Portrait of the artist as a young kid by François Hébel learned kids how to create self-portraits in four frames in a photobooth workshop before exhibiting them.

African Tale was led by theater director Toto Kisaku with whom kids and adults alike transformed into the characters of his favorite African tale.

Philosophy for kids with Simon Critchley encouraged kids to explore some of life's biggest questions.

Snow White or the fall of the Berlin wall by La Cordonnerie brought the magic of theater-making center stage with music and narration live performance.

French DJ Pedro Winter (Busy P) introduced kids to the best of French electronic music with a mini-version of his popular French “grown up music festival for kids”, Stereokids, featuring So-Me, Parisian artist, Stretch-Armstrong, New-York based hip-hop icon, and Riton, British house music DJ.

Oscar and Grammy-winning composer-conductor Tan Dun presented Terracotta Symphony & Hero Concerto at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This collaboration brought together eastern music with terracotta drumming and an extraordinary exhibit of terracotta warrior sculptures protecting the Qin Emperor.

Two powerhouse French performers, Nicolas Bouchaud and Sonia Wieder-Atherton, created an imaginative, musical rendition of Hans Christian Andersen’s treasured fairytale The Emperor and the Nightingale.

French artist Fanny de Chaillé celebrated the power of storytelling with her intimate performance The Teens Library, creating a living library with a group of teenagers who are part of the New York Public Library Literacy Leaders program.

Cuisine & Confessions, the newest creation by Montreal-based circus company The 7 Fingers, combined kitchen appliances, food, and recipes with elaborate choreography, jaw-dropping acrobatics and pulsating music to heighten audiences’ most visceral senses.
