Comic Book Artists In Residency In Minneapolis

While comics have gained a certain amount of literary prestige in the United States in recent years, European artists have enjoyed recognition for quite some time and have long pushed the boundaries of the form. One vehicle for that experimentation has been the Pierre Feuille Ciseaux (Rock Paper Scissor), a residency program for comic book artists in France.

For the first time in the U.S., this international experimental comics laboratory took place over the summer at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design in collaboration with the Autoptic Festival. The residency brought together a group of cartoonists (including  Sandrine Martin, Emilie Plateau, Benoit Preteseille, Pierre Ferrero, Jean-Christophe Menu, David Libens and Max de Radigues) from France and Belgium with students from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) to collaborate. The residency culminated with an exhibit of the best and most interesting work on display at MCAD’s gallery until September 8, 2013.
