About the Book: Tropic of Violence

Winner of the Prix Femina des lycéens, Tropic of Violence follows Marie, a nurse on the island of Mayotte, as she adopts an abandoned baby and renames him Moïse, raising him as French. Throughout his childhood, Moïse struggles to come to terms with his "outsider" status, and to understand his abandonment as an infant. After Marie's death, Moïse is completely alone, plunged into uncertainty and turmoil, before ending up in the largest and most infamous slum on Mayotte, nicknamed "Gaza."

Translated by Geoffrey Strachan from French, Tropic of Violence will be published in English on May 19, 2020.
