Marion Bataille's Us Tour

In partnership between Kids Trail and the Educational Affairs department of the French embassy.

Born in 1963 in Paris, Marion Bataille is a fantastically imaginative designer and a pionneer in pop-up books. A graduate from the Ecole supérieure d'arts graphiques, she started as a freelance graphic designer and a collage illustrator, and then became the artistic director of the cultural magazine Télérama.

Her 3D alphabet book was first published as Op-Up and presented at the Nigel Greenwood Gallery in London; it was then discovered by the publishing house Albin Michel, and became an international best-seller under the title ABC3D. With Ten, (Roaring Brook Press, 2011), and Numero (Chronicle Books, 2013), Marion Bataille continues her visually dazzling work on typography and numbers.

Workshops and talks

Workshop for Children

AOZ is a cut-out typography and collage workshop designed to tame the script style of capital letters. This workshop can be conducted in French or in English and is adaptable to different ages.
During the workshop, the children will make an alphabet as a class or create a book with their own name individually, when age appropriate. The children will get to keep their name book at the end of the workshop.

Talks for students

Marion Bataille gives a 45-minute talk and a 15-minute Q&A. She presents her work method, her approach to typography, as well as her published books, and explains the production process, from presenting a project to a publisher to the printing the book. She brings a USB key with images and short films.

About ABC3D

Prepare to be amazed. From the lenticular cover that changes with the angle of your hands all the way to the Z, ABC3D is as much a work of art as it is a pop-up book. Each of the 26 three-dimensional letters move and change before your eyes. C turns into D with a snap. M stands at attention. X becomes Y with a flick of the wrist. And then there's U...
Boldly conceived and brilliantly executed with a striking black, red, and white palette, this is a book that readers and art lovers of all ages will treasure for years to come.

"Easily the most innovative alpabet book of the year, if not the decade... Beyond clever." — The Washington Post
