New York City Center' 2019 Fall for Dance Festival will present the U.S. premiere of Dans L'Engrenage by France-based hip hop company Dyptik on October 3 and 4, 2019.
In Dans l’Engrenage, Mehdi Meghari, choreographer, wanted, as he says himself, "to stage the frantic social race of our infinite appetite." The play indeed questions social climbing without meaning, devoid as it often is of human values.
With the dancers and the musical designer, the ensemble drew inspiration from traditional dances and rhythms from the Arab world. The postures, the energy, the commitment, both physical and emotional, lead the dancer to a state close to the one of a man, an artist, or a politician who will do anything to succeed, a state akin to a trance.
For Fall for Dance, the two artistic directors of the company, Mehdi Meghari and Souhail Marchiche have prepared an adapted version of Dans l'engrenage. To know more about the company, read the interview with Mehdi and Souhail here.
Dyptik will be presented in a shared program that include 3 other companies
The performances of Dans l'engrenage by Compagnie Dyptik is supported by FUSED (French U.S. Exchange in Dance), a program developed by FACE Foundation and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States with the support of the Florence Gould Foundation, the Ford Foundation, Institut français-Paris, the French Ministry of Culture, and private donors.
