This January, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz will host a series of performances by Biréli Lagrène, French musician considered to be one of the world’s premiere practitioners of gypsy jazz, and “Le Livre de ma Mère”, a play adaptation based off of Swiss author Albert Cohen’s autobiography titled Book of My Mother. The theatre, in partnership with l'Alliance Française de Los Angeles, will also host a night of French short films, featuring a variety of French stories and film styles.

On January 22nd, Biréli Lagrène’s acclaimed Gypsy Jazz Project ensemble, composed of Lagrène, saxophonist Frank Wolf and double bass player William Brunard, will follow in the footsteps of legendary gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reignhardt to showcase and move the audience with their stylistically expansive sound.

On January 31st & February 1st, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz presents “Le Livre de ma Mère”, a theater-adaptation of Swiss author Albert Cohen’s 1954 autobiography. The one-man stage play, performed by French actor Patrick Timsit nominated for 4 César Awards, recounts Cohen’s grief following the death of his mother. The adaptation, described as 'achingly honest, intimate, and moving', pays tribute and celebrates the life of all mothers.

Then, on February 6th, TRK, in partnership with l'Alliance Française de Los Angeles , will screen a selection of short films chosen from 2019’s nominees at the César (French Oscars) as well as other short film festivals. The showcase will be dedicated to discovering the most creative and innovative French filmmakers, encouraging viewers to further immerse themselves in French art and culture.
