Make Music Miami 2020

Dominique Fillon (from France) kicks off #ContagiousBeats

Get ready for MAKE MUSIC MIAMI 2020

That's right! Miami's Fête de la musique, aka Make Music Miami returns this year with a unique program that respects social distancing no matter what activities are proposed - from streamed performances during morning rush hour in the city's public transit, online music workshops, traveling music bus, to live streams of concerts and house parties with Miami's favorite local bands and much more...

We invite all music lovers and performers to participate as Miami-Dade County joins in this worldwide interactive music celebration of the summer solstice on June 21. This edition is presented by  Buskerfest Miami, LiVE! Modern School of Music, Magic City OperaThe Rhythm Foundation, the Lincoln Road BID, the French Embassy Cultural Services, Miami Design Preservation League and many, many civic partners.

Performer and Venue registration for Make Music Miami 2020 is now open! Registration is open to artists of all music genres and skill levels and property owners who would like to host an activity (or livestream) on June 21.

Visit miami.makemusicday.org to create your account today. Matchmaking between Performers and Venues will open in the coming weeks.

Having trouble? A series of short registration tutorials  are now available on YouTube. Stay tuned for more webinars hosted by our own streaming media expert, Justin Trieger, later this month. The webinars will focus on tips and tricks to maximize the reach and quality of your livestreams with whatever equipment is available.

In preamble to Make Music Miami day, we are kicking off with Contagious Beats. Beginning with renowned French composer and pianist Dominique Fillon (@instadomfi), esteemed performers: DJ Le Spam (@spamallstars), Emile Milgrim (@otherelectricities) and Inez Barlatier (@InezBMusic) have invited you to jam with them in  celebration of Make Music Miami.

Let’s jam alone together! In this unprecedented time, everyone is discovering new ways to collaborate and share creative ideas. #ContagiousBeats is a way for you to jam along with prominent musicians in the comfort of your home. Stream or download one of the videos below and record your own part to contribute to the mix. On June 21st, we will broadcast the final mashup videos featuring the best contributions from the public. A few notes:

  • Use headphones when making your recording so we have a clean take of your performance without the backing track
  • A smartphone recording is perfectly fine. If you have fancy mics and cameras, use them!
  • Don’t feel like you have to solo the whole time – consider comping or playing backup during sections as well
  • All instruments (including voice) are welcome
  • If the backing track has an established key, best to stick with it
  • You are welcome to upload multiple takes

Upload your finished recording by clicking the button below or email a download link to info@buskerfestmiami.com. If you have the skills to combine your recording with the original, please share that as well on social media and tag it with #ContagiousBeats. If you’re a member of band, consider passing the mix along to your other band members like a game of musical telephone. We’re excited to see what you come up with! Thanks for playing.
