Chicago Plein Air Concert Series

Can’t got to the symphony, the opera or jazz clubs? Come to the Alliance Française de Chicago for three intimate concerts en plein air!

Here’s your chance to hear music again in person and en plein air at the Alliance Française de Chicago! Think of it as your private concert...  with strictly limited seating to ensure safe social distancing for all.

Tuesday, September 15 at 5:00 p.m.

The first concert features Liba Shacht, Lyric Opera violinist; Lawrence Neumann, CSO violist, and John Sharp, CSO’s principal cello – performing Ludwig van Beethoven Serenade in D major for String Trio, opus 8.

Beethoven’s music, turbulent, emotional, and individualistic, reflects the spirit of the French Revolution of which he was an early admirer. He originally dedicated his Sinfonia Eroica to Napoleon, citing the at-the-time Consul as a hero and an inspiration. But once Napoleon declared himself emperor, Beethoven became disillusioned and removed the dedication. Mais oui!

Tuesday, September 22 at 5:00 p.m.

The second concert is presented in partnership with Third Coast Baroque and features the French soprano Nathalie Colas accompanied by Brandon J. Acker at the lute in an exclusive recital.

Tuesday, September 29 at 5:00 p.m.

The third concert features Paris Noir  with the great jazz vocalist Greta Pope!

Paris Noir… American Jazz in Paris! celebrates American Jazz and the artists that took it to Paris during the early part of the 20th Century. Hear the songs of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Eartha Kitt, Nat King Cole and others. An exclusive plein air cabaret !
