Filmgate Interactive, a Miami-based media festival, has announced the lineup for its 7th edition. At the crossroads of visual storytelling, entertainment and new immersive technology, this one-of-a-kind international event invites all curious and tech-savvy audiences to explore the best mind-bending stories in interactive and immersive storytelling.

To better accommodate social distancing protocols, this year's hybrid edition -- running from December 4-6, 2020 -- will take place in-person and online. The program for the public will be free, but with limited capacity. The most noteworthy immersive projects are coming from the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Korea, Argentina, and Brazil.

FRENCH COMPETITION LINEUP :

  • SPACED OUT (France, 2019) is an underwater VR experience created by the lead artist Pierre “Pyaré” Friquet. Using the waterproof headset, it invites visitors to float on water while breathing with a snorkel, giving an illusion of being immersed into the lunar surface. SPACED OUT transports the visitors from earth to the moon, from water to space, and from the first to the third person leaving the body behind, to reach the moon and then its hollow center.

  • REPUBLIQUE (FRANCE, 2019). This interactive film unfolds through three simultaneous video feeds, each one mimicking a social media live feed. At any time, the user can drag his finger across the screen to switch from one feed to another. Between the panic of the moment, the comments from followers, and the occasional loss of signal, the viewer is immersed in the ow of wide-ranging sources of information that flood our perception of reality whenever such an attack occurs.

  • SATURNISM (FRANCE, ROMANIA, 2020). Enter one of the darkest painters of the history of art - Saturn Devouring His Son by Francisco de Goya - alone with Saturn in a cold and misty landscape.

  • BATTLESCAR (FRANCE, SPAIN, ARGENTINA, 2018) is what it’s like to find yourself in the loud punk world. BattleScar is a coming of age drama that explores the theme of identity through the use of animation and immersive environments in virtual reality.

Screening at The Sagamore Hotel South Beach

  • ACCUSED #2 (FRANCE, 2019) immerses the viewer in the trial which convicted Nelson Mandela during the Apartheid regime in South Africa. In this amazing VR experience, you can relive the five days of Mandela’s intense dialogue with a racist prosecutor and discover the testimony of an exceptional character, who risked the death penalty by speaking his truth.
