CHAVELA
Directed by Catherine Gund and Daresha Kyi, 2017, 1h33, Mexico-Spain-USA

Chavela is a captivating look at the unconventional life of beloved performer Chavela Vargas, whose passionate renditions of Mexican popular music and triumphant return to the stage late in life brought her international fame. In the final years of her life, Chavela comes out as lesbian and rises into her momentous third act, becoming a muse to Pedro Almodóvar, earning a Lifetime Achievement Grammy, and selling out performances at the prestigious concert halls in Paris!

Presented in partnership with the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York and Cinema Tropical.
