Upcoming world premiere: Patrick Zimmerli's "Messages"

On June 18, at 2:30 pm ESTEspace Sorano in France will livestream Messages, a new jazz and contemporary work by acclaimed American composer and musician Patrick ZimmerliMessages is a piece tailor-made to be performed by the gifted pianist Thomas Enhco and the reputed classical saxophone quartet Quatuor Morphing.

The piece was awarded a creative grant from the Jazz & New Music, a program of FACE foundation and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the US, and its upcoming premiere promises to be an exciting sonic experience!

Thomas Enhco will be accompanied by Fabrice Moreau on drums and Stéphane Kerecki on double bass, and Zimmerli himself will play tenor saxophone.

Tickets to livestream the show can be purchased online. The show will begin at 8:30PM in Paris and at 2:30PM EST.


About Patrick Zimmerli

Patrick Zimmerli is a lauded New York-and-Paris-based composer and saxophonist whose practice was informed by the contemporary American scene and composers such as Milton Babbitt, Elliott Carter and Steve Reich. Since winning the inaugural Thelonious Monk Composers Competition in 1993, he has written, recorded and performed with many leaders in the classical and jazz worlds. He has composed numerous orchestral, chamber and choral works, and his latest CD, with Joshua Redman and the string quartet Brooklyn Rider, was released on Nonesuch Recordings on October 4, 2019. A specialist in large-scale projects, Zimmerli's music has been played at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Town Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London and Salle Pleyel in Paris. Zimmerli has also taught at the Paris ConservatoireSciences Po, and Columbia University, where he holds a DMA in Composition.

About Thomas Encho

Thomas Enhco is a French pianist and composer of jazz and classical music. He started playing the violin and the piano at the age of three and gave his first concerts, as well as wrote his first compositions, at age six. At nine years old, Didier Lockwood invited him to perform on stage with him at the jazz festivals of Antibes Juan-les-Pins, Vienne and Marciac. He studied jazz at CMDL and classical piano with the great master Gisèle Magnan. At 16, he enrolled at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP), from which he was expelled two years later. Since then, he has released eight albums as a lead musician and has played an average of 100 concerts per year around the world, both in classical and jazz venues and festivals. Thomas Enhco has won numerous prizes and awards, among which are the 3rd Grand Prize at the 2010 Martial Solal International Jazz Piano Competition, the 2010 Django d'Or « New Talent », the 2012 FIPA d'Or for Best Film Score, the 2013 Victoire du Jazz « Révélation » (also nominated at the 2015 Victoires du Jazz), the 2nd Grand Prize at the 2017 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, and the 2017 Sacem ACEG Prize. 

About Quatuor Morphing

"Morphing" is the artistic process that combines two photos to create a new, unique one. These four saxophonists offer the "Sound Morphing" of their respective musicalities.
 
In May 2011, the six-month-old Quatuor Morphing won 1st Prize at the 7th prestigious Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. This international success allowed them to perform in Japan for 15 concerts in the fall of 2012 (Izumi Hall, Tsuda Hall, Beppu University...) as well as in many festivals in France and abroad: Concerts de Poche, Festival Pablo Casals, Musique d'un siècle, les Musicales de Wesserling, les Grandes Heures de St Emilion, l'Eure Poétique et Musicale, les Mélusicales, Val d'Aulnay, etc. Quatuor Morphing also won 1st Prize at the International Chamber Music Competition of Illzach, and the group obtained its master's degree with high honors in chamber music at the CNSMDP in the class of David Walter. In 2013, the Quartet became the laureate of grants from the "Banque Populaire" and "Cziffra" foundations. Frequently solicited by universities and other learning establishments, Quatuor Morphing participates in various musical events throughout the world (Brazil, Japan, Portugal, Spain, Russia...). Their first CD, entitled Ravel-Mendelssohn and released by the KLARTHE Label in 2016, is available in stores and on all download platforms. The same year, the quartet recorded the CD Hopen Air with Andy Emler, which received a Jazz Shock. In 2017, they worked with Philippe Berrod to record the album Clarinet Fantasia (Label Ad Vitam) around the music of Alexis Ciesla. 2019 sees the creation of their first show, directed by Pascal Neyron: Morphing, which mixes music, theater and video.

About Espace Sorano

Espace Sorano is a cultural space and venue in Vincennes, a district located in the eastern suburbs of Paris. It regularly welcomes the public into its two theatres, exhibition space, terrasse and foyer. More than 4000 members of all ages also participate in cultural, artistic, educational and linguistic activities at the center, which is open 7 days a week.
