Join the Clichycago Community on June 26th!

©️ Natacha Gonzalez

Clichycago is a new initiative that aims to weave a strong link between urban peripheries from the South Side of Chicago and the Parisian suburb of Clichy-Montfermeil.

This collaborative project is co-produced by the Ateliers Médicis and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in Chicago. Centered on the core theme – Communities, endured or chosen -, Clichycago is primarily focused on questions of community and belonging. It facilitates dialogues among artists, researchers, journalists, local groups or organizations around a variety of issues, from social justice to artistic innovation.

Clichycago also supports the work of France and Chicago-based artists in the virtual sphere and in-person at partners venues in both countries.

Clichycago takes the form of cross-residence program (this year's residents are Faheem Majeed and Bintou Dembélé), works commissioned from several Chicago artists for the online creation space The Other·Expo, portraits of residents involved in the life of Clichycago, made by Invisible Institute (Jamie Kalven) and La Chaise Pliante (Nawufal Mohamed and Lucas Roxo), and informal exchanges, encounters and public events.

Clichycago’s opening on June 26th
Chicago : 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Clichy-Montfermeil : 17h - minuit

To inaugurate this sharing of energies and ideas, and to initiate this fruitful and multiform dialogue, an unprecedented program of seven consecutive hours, equal to the time difference between Chicago and Clichy-sous-Bois/Montfermeil, will be broadcast on June 26th, on the website of the Ateliers Médicis and relayed by the Hyde Park Art Center, as well as on site at the Ateliers Médicis, in Clichy-Montfermeil.

For seven hours, testimonies and initiatives from artists, various actors, and cultural organizations from both sides of the Atlantic will resonate. The eclectic programming is intended to reflect the diverse social and artistic dynamics that make these territories come alive and vibrate.
