Dance Film Series at Invisible Dog Art Center

"Never Twenty One" : Smaïl Kanouté

The Invisible Dog Art Center and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy present two evenings (July 17 and July 24 at 7:30 pm EST) of dance films featuring new French and international talents. The screenings will take place in the garden of The Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn.

The films of different lengths and styles explore themes as diverse as identity, disability, violence, youth, transmission, transformation and, first and foremost, the beautiful language of movement.

The series features films by Smaïl Kanouté, the collectif (LA)HORDE, Éric Minh Cuong CastaingAna Pi as well as two documentaries filmed in Senegal: one, by Laure Malécot, is about Germaine Acogny and The School of Sands, and the other, filmed by Diane Fardoun, centers on young dancers from Dakar.

Food and drinks will be prepared by Lucien Chef Ambition, and performers and choreographers David Thomson and Patricia Hoffbauer will be present to share their perspectives before and after the screening.

Chairs will be provided. Those who prefer to sit on the grass should bring their own blankets. Entry, food and drink are free of charge, but you can make a pay-as-you-wish donation at the door before or after the event.

More information about the program here: July 17 / July 24

These films are part of A Catalogue of Dance Films, an initiative developed by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in collaboration with Institut français, Ministry of Culture-Delegation à la danse, Maison de la danse-Numeridanse, and Centre National de la Danse.
