PRISM 34: aGLIFF’S Annual LGBTQ+ Film Festival

Austin’s oldest film festival, aGLIFF (All Genders, Lifestyles, and Identities Film Festival) announced the official program selections for PRISM 34, running August 26 – September 6, 2021 in hybrid form, both in-person and online.

The 34th annual festival will feature over ninety films including features, documentaries, and shorts over twelve days while additionally hosting exclusive festival events and screenings.

This year's selection includes French documentary Queendom, by Marco Novoa et Simon Vivier, and French dramedy My Best Part (Garçon chiffon), by Nicolas Maury, with the support of the Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston. The two films screen both online and in-person (in-person screening at the Galaxy Theatres in Austin, located at 6700 Middle Fiskville, Austin, TX 78752 on Saturday, September 4 at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.)

Receive $2 OFF a ticket to either of these two French films for either the in-person or virtual screenings using discount code FRANCE02 (the code is case sensitive and can be entered at check-out to have $2.00 deducted from the ticket price.)

Queendom, by Marco Novoa et Simon Vivier

The Paris ballroom scene has grown enormously over the past several years. As France grapples with the Covid crisis, three artists working in this resurgent subculture struggle with day-to-day challenges as they keep their eye on the throne. Misha, of the famed House of LaDurée balances studying for his high school exit exam and for two important balls. Romain believes drag is a form of political activism. Cookie Kunty, his drag queen alter ego, will be acting in their 2nd short film this year, hoping to take drag mainstream and reach as wide an audience as possible. Le Filip, a 25-year-old drag queen stand-up comic, is busy writing and putting together his first one-queen show. Beautiful cinematography and intimate profiles pull the queens to the front of the runway.

My Best Part (Garçon chiffon), by Nicolas Maury

Nothing is going right anymore for Jérémie’s comedy and acting career. His love life hits a bleak streak due his rampant jealousy. Between insufficient funds on his credit card, the cuts and bumps he’s nursing, and his existential doubts, he swirls deep inside the vortex of his Paris-based depression. So he flees to the country to reset with his slightly invasive mother and lick his wounds. Hoping to find new romance with mum’s hunky (and straight) assistant, he spends the summer preparing for an audition he doesn’t feel right for -- Springtime Awakening. “Am I still the right age to play a tormented, suicidal teen?"
