LA Opera Presents The Pearl Fishers

LA Opera presents the French opera Les Pêcheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers), starring soprano Nino Machaidze and tenor Javier Camarena at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion from October 7th to October 28th, 2017.

The Pearl Fishers was originally composed by Georges Bizet, who also composed Carmen and its libretto was written by Eugene Cormon and Michel Carre. It first premiered in 1863 at the Theatre Lyrique in Paris, France. The Pearl Fishers takes place in ancient times in what is known today as Sri Lanka. Through brilliant orchestral music, inspiring vocals, and vibrant sets, the opera recounts a story of two friends, Zurga and Nadir, and their struggle to keep their friendship despite their mutual love for the same woman, a priestess named Leila. Leila herself also endures an internal conflict between true love and her sacred committment as a priestess. You don't want to miss out on this thrilling and dramatic story of love, jealousy, and sacrifice!
