"Cyrano" at Opera Carolina

© John Grigaitis Michigan Opera Theater

Cyrano, the eloquent but homely poet, loves the beautiful Roxanne, but Roxanne loves the
handsome Christian, who can’t put two words together in her presence. What can poor Cyrano do except lend Christian his beautiful words so he can win Roxanne’s favor? The Carolina Opera’s production features John Viscardi in the title role, French tenor Sébastien Guèze as Christian, and Quebecoise soprano Magali Simard-Galdés as Roxanne.

Inspired by Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play “Cyrano de Bergerac,” David DiChiera’s “Cyrano” features a libretto in French by Bernard Uzan. It was first performed at the Michigan Opera Theatre in 2007, where DiChiera was artistic director from 1971-2016 . Opera Carolina will perform the work, in French with English supertitles, on November 4 at 8:00 P.M. and again on November 9 at 7:30 P.M.
