French Art Week

Alliance Française de Los Angeles will host the second edition of their yearly French Art Week starting on February 5. The week will begin with an art exhibition at Alliance Française de Los Angeles organized with the support of Beatrice and Laurent Chassepot. Art collectors themeselves, they will discuss their attempt at collecting art that goes beyond painting. Discussion followed by a reception.

The week will continue with a screening of La Nuit Américaine on February 6. The film, by the late French film director François Truffaut, is about the production of a cliché melodrama starring an ageing screen legend, a diva, a heartthrob, and a British actress. English actress Jacqueline Bisset, the late French actor Jean-Pierre Aumont, Italian actress Valentina Cortese, and French actor Jean-Pierre Léaud star in the film. The screening will occur at Alliance Française de Los Angeles.

On February 7, Damien Bigot, Education Director of Alliance Française de Los Angeles, will lead an art history workshop on French Renaissance. The workshop will take place at Alliance Française de Los Angeles. 

To conclude the week, there will be a round table discussion titled Art & Alterity: "Why Paint?" on February 8. The event will bring together art critic David Pagel and French artist Mambo with the support of the American Institute for Levinassian Studies. Jean-Claude Carron, AILS Scientific Director, will moderate the conversation. The discussion will focus on the sociological and philosophical persepctive of painting and will take place at Heritage Fine Wines.
