Icons of French Design at ICFF

Part of Oui Design 2018

“NO TASTE FOR BAD TASTE, so Starck, so Bouroullec…so le French Design” highlights the very best of French Design: 40 masterpieces of the 21st century in a scenography by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. Organized by the VIA (Valorization of Innovation in Furnishing), a non-profit organization founded in 1979 with the support of the French Ministry of Industry, in collaboration with the Institut français-Paris, NO TASTE FOR BAD TASTE celebrates VIA’s 40 years of devotion to tomorrow’s design. New York will be the 6th stop of its worldwide tour, after Milano, Venice, Montreal, Miami and Los Angeles.

Forty international figures from the world of arts—including Christian Liaigre, Pierre Yovanovitch, Paola Antonelli (MOMA), Chantal Thomass (fashion designer), Gunjan Gupta (designer) and many more and formed a “think tank” to define the essence of le French Design based on their individual perspectives. Ten values emerged in the discussions: Art de Vivre, Panache, Elegance and a Hint of Luxury, Audacity, Cultural Openness, Heritage, Balance, Creativity and Industry, Savoir-Faire, and Sustainable Innovation. These then became the guiding principles for selecting the 40 iconic 21st century lifestyle showpieces.

To further highlight the excellence of French Art de Vivre noted in the ten values, VIA teamed up with creator Jean-Charles de Castelbajac to design an elegant and poetic scenography, framing the entire exhibition.
