On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, Skylight Books is hosting a LIVE event with the esteemed French author Éric Vuillard to discuss his book, The Order of the Day. The author's tour is organized by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
Writer and filmmaker Éric Vuillard is the critically acclaimed author to nine award-winning titles such as Conquistadors, and La bataille d’Occident, and Congo . His latest book, The Order of the Day, won the 2017 Prix Goncourt, France’s most prestigious literary prize.
The Order of the Day, his second book written in English and awarded the Prix Goncourt, exhumes the well-known history of World War II with fresh perspective, warning of the timeless threat to freedom exacted by self-interest, willful ignorance, and the consolidation of power in the hands of the few.
Beginning in 1933 with a secret meeting held between twenty-four German captains of industry and senior Nazi officials, the book explores the behind-the-scenes account of the manipulation, hubris, and greed that together led to Nazi Germany’s annexation of Austria.
This true story of the Anschluss reveals a starkly different picture in which it is no longer strength of character nor the determination of a people that wins the day, but rather a combination of intimidation and bluff.
Please RSVP here or submit questions beforehand, and Skylight will ask the author on your behalf.
