The Norton Simon Museum in December

The Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California is hosting two French art related events. On Saturday, December 1, The Classical Influence will explore art from renaissance paintings to 18th century paintings. On Sunday, December 2, the work of Renoir, one of the founding fathers of the impressionist movement, will be discussed in Renoir: An Artist Embattled.

"The Classical Influence" museum tour on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 1-2pm will study and analyze the enduring influence of classical subjects and styles of European art from Renaissance paintings to 18th-century history paintings. The tour will feature French art including work from French artist Thomas-Germain-Josephs Duvivier.

“Renoir: An Artist Embattled” afternoon salon, held at the Norton Simon Museum on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 1-2 pm will discuss Renoir, one of the founding fathers of impressionism. The salon will cover the conflicts with Renoir's art which is criticized for being “sentimental and too soft.” The tour will examine the embattled artist and how his style and subject matter changed over the course of his career.
