Ashes by Puppeteer Yngvild Aspeli at HERE Arts Center

Between March 12-17, 2019, HERE Arts Center presents Ashes by Compagnie Plexus Polaire .

Directed by Yngvild Aspeli, Ashes is the collision of two stories: the story of a young man who sets houses on fire, and the story of a writer who seizes the events as literary material several decades later. Taking place in a small village in the south of Norway, a generation apart, Ashes is the story of two tortured intimacies or tragically ordinary beings who bend under the onslaught of their demons.

The show, based on the semi-autobiographical novel “Before I Burn” by Norwegian author Gaute Heivoll, introduces a memorable cast of characters in the form of life-size puppets.

Before its New York stop, Ashes will be presented at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta from March 1st to 3rd.

It will be the second appareance by Compagnie Plexus Polaire this year, first in January with Chambre Noire at Under The Radar Festival, New York, and Chicago International Puppetry Festival.

Yngvild Aspeli received her training at l’Ecole Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq à Paris (2003-2005), then at l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette (ESNAM) in Charleville-Mézières (2005-2008). Following her studies, Yngvild was an actress and a designer of costume and puppets with different companies in France, Norway and England. In 2009, she created the company Plexus Polaire. She is now working on an adaptation of Herman Melville's Moby Dick
