Claire Denis’ North American retrospective

On the occasion of the opening of her latest High Life French director Claire Denis will be presenting a sample of her prolific work in multiple theaters and venues.

At once firmly rooted in the traditions of both French and world cinema and entirely dedicated to discovering and describing the particular rhythms, textures, and terrors of the postcolonial, neoliberal world, Claire Denis is one of the handful of film artists whose every new work feels like an event, a figure who actually earns that most over- and misused word: Essential. Profound and empathetic studies of outsiderhood, immigrant alienation, the ravages of colonialism, and the mysteries of love and desire, her films are not so much watched as experienced in a full-sensory head-rush of sound and image.
