Celebrate art, music, and dance starting March 22-24, 2019 at the SHOW Gallery as part of the Bombay Beach Biennale. Afterwards, festivities will continue throughout the year.

Each year people gather on the literal edge of western civilization: the shores of the Salton Sea. For three days each year, with the intention of increasing awareness of the Salton Sea’s environmental crisis, the Biennale transforms the town into a fully-immersive art experience. Together, Bombay Beach residents, artists, volunteers and collaborators unite to transform the town into a destination for art and creativity.

This year, Margot Ross curated French artists Joséphine Wister Faure and Boris Chouvellon to be part of the Biennale. Joséphine Wister Faure created a site-specific performance called Levitation, while Boris Chouvellon created two site-specific monumental installations on the shores of the Salton Sea called Ma Ruine Avant La Votre (My Ruin Before Yours) and Last Splash (Bombay Beach).

Joséphine Wister Faure explains her desire to want to do the levitation on the Salton Sea as:

“There are so many tragic tales to be told around the Salton Sea, from the environmental disasters of the region and the hardships that the desert folks endure as a consequence. When I first went to Bombay Beach, I heard many stories of adversity yet the people I met showed me the fierce beauty of the place and ever since, I have been deeply inspired by this particular part of the world. Levitation is a performance honoring that sentiment of awe and dreaminess set on a beach made of bones and salt where the wind can be wicked.”

Show Gallery is located between Hollywood and Sunset Plaza at 1515 N. Gardner St off of Sunset Boulevard. There is street parking available or please contact them to inquire about their private parking lot.
