On June 25-27, the New York Opera Fest will feature French opera The Human Voice, composed by Francis Poulenc and based on the play written by Jean Cocteau. The opera will be conducted by Nicolò Sbuelz.
The libretto tells the story of a woman's last phone conversation with her lover, who now loves someone else. Directed by Anton Armendariz Diaz, this version of The Human Voice presents Ashley Bell and Michal Gizinski interpreting the same character, living parallel lives, through a mirror, until circumstances lead them to make different decisions. This duality opens a world of existential metaphors. Is he her? Or is she him? Both are the same person, whether male or female: they are just living emotions.
