Alliance Française de Denver presents Beyond Borders on June 1 and 2, 2019. This performance, a collaboration between Thomas Dance Project and composer Gregory Walker, will be held at the Colorado Ballet’s BlackBox Theater

Beyond Borders is a dance performance that is inspired by the European migrant crisis and those seeking a better place to live, overcoming hardships to do so. Comprised of original music and choreography, the Thomas Dance Project aims to inspire its community and evoke the challenges, dreams, sufferings, and hope that thousands of individuals experience while leaving their homes.

This performance is not just a fictional story, it attempts to capture the very real physical and spiritual trials confronted. Original compositions by Greg Walker, supported by the University of Colorado’s College of Arts & Media, will accompany this live performance. Specifically, Walker will be using a combination of classical, electrical, and traditional African music to narrative this humanitarian crisis.

Alongside Walker, the Altius String Quartet, Rich L’Or Nachrist, and David Hinojosa will be adding to the musical compositions. Like the dance that will be performed, the songs were all inspired by the journey of migrants and the effects endured to their homes, cultures, and families.

The Thomas Dance project was founded by French ballet dancer Kevin Gaël Thomas in 2016 with the intention of inspiring others through choreography. Thomas studied at the prestigious Rosella Hightower’s ballet center in Cannes, France before moving to Canada’s National Ballet School, where he graduated with honors. Since then, Thomas has emerged as an international ballet soloist with the Colorado Ballet.

Additionally, the Thomas Dance Project has choreographed several shows including Riviera (2017), Holocaust by Bullets (2018), HOME (2018), and this year’s show Beyond Borders.
