Book Release: Duras/Godard Dialogues

Image: Jean-Luc Godard and Marguerite Duras in Océaniques - Des idées des hommes des oeuvres (1987)

After publishing the exquisite François Truffaut by Lillian Ross, The Film Desk releases on October 6 th the English translation of Duras/Godard Dialogues.

The book, which contains three dialogues between French novelist Marguerite Duras and film director Jean-Luc Godard from 1979, 1980 and 1987, is introduced by Cyril Béghin who also wrote the afterword and footnotes.

“The two demonstrate a profound shared passion, a way of literally being one with a medium and speaking about it with a dazzling lyricism interspersed with dryly ironic remarks, fueled by a conviction that inspires them to traverse history. Their point of intersection is obvious. Duras, a writer, is also a filmmaker, and Godard, a filmmaker, has maintained a distinctive relationship with literature, writing and speech.”—Cyril Béghin

Already available for preorder.

Other titles coming Winter 2020 from the publisher:

  • Beauty and the Beast: Diary of a Film by Jean Cocteau
  • The World of Jia Zhangke by Jean-Michel Frodon
