Jean Claude Carrière will be honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the sixth annual Governors Awards on November 8th in Los Angeles for his whole film career along with master animator Hayao Miyazaki, screen siren Maureen O'Hara and Harry Belafonte.
Novelist and screenwritter, Jean Claude Carrière is known to have written Belle de Jour by Luis Buñuel (1967), La Piscine de Jacques Deray (1969), The Tin Drum byVolker Schlöndorff, the Cannes Palme d'Or winner 1979 et the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film 1980, Every Man for Himself byJean-Luc Godard (1970) et Cyrano de Bergerac by Jean-Paul Rappeneau (1990). Carrière also received nominations for the screenplays he wrote for The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, That Obscure Object of Desire and The Unbearable Lightness of Being, directed by Philip Kaufman.
