During the weeks leading up to the third edition of the French-American Creative Lab, we invite you to learn more about the 8 French startups selected to participate in the program. This week, let us introduce you to the creators of Short Edition. This week’s startup stands out as an exceptional collection of published short story literature which recently launched the Short Story Dispenser a disrupting innovation to promote culture and to improve customer relationship.
Short Edition is the community of short literature publisher and boasts more than 200,000 regular readers, 7,000 authors and 85,000 short stories. The Short Story Dispenser has no screen and offers, in a random fashion short stories to be read there and then—in one, three or five minutes. These short stories are written by the authors of the Short Edition community.
Short Edition’s founder and CEO Christophe Sibieude graciously agreed to be interviewed:
What was your dream job as a child?
As a child, soccer player.
As a teenager, newspaper editor.
As an adult, nor boss, nor under a boss.
How did you come up with the idea of the Short Story Dispenser?
Short Edition is the community publisher of short literature. Our "why" is to adapt literature to today's world by combining short stories, technology, and community engagement.
We wanted to show that short literature is adaptable to new devices and to a new way of life.
One day, while we were getting a chocolate bar from a vending machine beside our office, we had the idea to create a special vending machine to dispense short stories, printed on a high quality paper, for short reading times...
Which aspect(s) of the French-American Creative Lab program are you the most looking forward to?
Both promises: we look forward to having a better understanding of the American business world, and at the same time, we hope we will meet some good business leads.
Short Edition's CEO Christophe Sibieude will be in New York from November 6 - 10 and in Los Angeles from November 12 – 15, 2017. If you would like to meet with them, contact us at creative-lab@frenchculture.org.
