Support for French-American Research Initiatives

Support for French-American Research Initiatives

Taking on global challenges through research collaborations that transcend national and cultural borders.

Launched in 2017, the Transatlantic Research Partnership (TRP) is a flagship program bringing together young researchers based in France and in the United States. TRP awards $20,000 grants to be used over the course of two years.

TRP is a program of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the US and FACE Foundation.

Program goals

With the mission of fostering forward-looking collaborations addressing pressing global challenges, TRP supports collaborative research projects related to one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Eligibility

Projects should be rooted in at least one of the following fields: Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Interdisciplinary projects which combine both HSS and STEM (Sciences for Society) are also encouraged.

The application must be submitted jointly by two researchers at the beginning of their career (maximum 7 years after obtaining their PhD).

Applicants should be researchers at the beginning of their careers. Senior researchers and Ph.D. candidates may take part in the project as team members, but not as project leaders.

While applicants are not required to hold US or French citizenship, they must be employed at either a US or a French higher education institution for the duration of the project.

Funding

The grants must be shared equally between the French and American partners. Additional funding from the research leaders’ institutions is encouraged to ensure the sustainability of the research partnership.

Funding is intended to support transatlantic travel and accommodations for the researchers, collaborative research activities, the organization of international workshops or conferences, and costs associated with the publication of joint articles.
