French Music Awards: The Nominees

The Victoires de la musique is an annual French award ceremony that recognizes outstanding achievements in the music industry and the best musical artists of the year. It is the French equivalent to the Grammy Awards. 

The 36th edition of Victoires de la Musique will take place on February 12, 2021. It will be broadcast on French Chanel France 2 and on French Radio France InterWhile the ceremony may potentially be held without any audience considering the global health crisis French viewers are invited to vote for their favorite musicians in different categories. 

Below is a list of 2021 nominees:

Female Artist of the Year: Aya Nakamura, Pomme, and Suzane

Male Artist of the Year: Benjamin Biolay, Gaël Faye, and Vianney

Female revelation of the Year: Clou, Lous and the Yakuza, and Yseult

Male revelation of the Year: Hatik, Hervé, and Noë Preszow

Album of the Year: « Aimée » by Julien Doré, « Grand Prix » by Benjamin Biolay, « Lundi méchant » by Gaël Faye, « Mesdames » by Grand Corps Malade and « Paradis » by Ben Mazué

Original Song of the Year: « Comment est ta peine ? » by Benjamin Biolay, « Corps » by Yseult, « Facile » by Camelia Jordana, « La maison de retraite » by Michel Jonas and « Mais je t’aime » by Grand Corps Malade and Camille Lellouche

Music Video of the Year: « Goliath » by Woodkid, « La vita nuova » by Christine and the Queens and « Nous » by Julien Doré

Adapting to the context of this past year, the Academy has removed the categories « Best concert » and « Stage revelation » and created the new category, « Most streamed track », which will distinguish Gradur and Heuss L’Enfoiré for their track « Ne reviens pas » (101 millions views, between 12/01/2019 and 11/30/2020). 

The 28th edition of the Victoires de la Musique Classique, which will take place at the end of February direct from Lyon’s Auditorium on France Musique radio and french chanel France 3, has also revealed its 2021 nominees. A concert by the "Revelation" nominees will be broadcast on France Musique radio on January 25th, at 2 pm (ET).

Instrumental Solist: Katia Buniatishvili (piano), Thibaut Garcia (guitar), and Alexandre Taraud (piano)

Lyrical artist: Lea Desandre (mezzo-soprano), Julie Fuchs (soprano), and Véronique Gens (soprano)

Revelation, instrumental soloist: Jean-Paul Gasparian (piano), Aurélien Gignoux (percussions), Eva Zavaro (violon)

Revelation, lyrical artist: Marie-Laure Garnier (soprano), Jeanne Gérard (soprano), and Marie Oppert (soprano)

Composer: Benjamin Attahir for « Istiraha, sonate for violon and piano », Betsy Jolas for « Topeng, for string quartet » and Benoït Menut for « Iroise, two crossings for cello ».
