My name is Inez Balartier.
And I am a singer song writer musician who loves African Diasporic music. I have been writing music since I am 10 years old, my father gave me a guitar and I started performing since I was 12.
When I made the decision to become a serious musician, I formed a band with my brother from another mother, Jayan, and we called ourselves Kazoots. My father and Jayan’s mother and father founded a band in the 80’s and they called themselves Koleksyon Kazak, Kazak collective, and they were a power house Haitian folkloric Jazz fusion band. And as Kazoots, we are the seeds of the Kazak tree, and I love representing that name.
For 6 years that’s what we did, write music, collaborate, play any styles we liked from rock, roots, indie, surf.I wrote lyrics about anything political and personal, and we performed for free most of the time. But it was those 6 years that made me realize that I want to do this, for the rest of my life.
