About the Creation in Public Space Course

What is public space? Why do artists choose to work in these unconventional places? How do they use these spaces around the world? What kind of legislation and technicals characteristics do professionals have to take into account?

Launched last year by FAI-AR (Training center for Art in Public Spaces in Marseille) in partnership with In Situ (the European platform for artistic creation in public space) and ARTCENA (French national center for circus arts, street arts and theater), Create In Public Space is a unique online course conceived for artists, art students, cultural actors, community leaders, and international urban transformation professionals to reflect on creation in public space.

Initiated in 2002, FAI-AR is a training center dedicated to artistic creation in public space. It offers 22 months of advanced training for students from higher artistic training institutions and experienced performers (comedians, dancers, musicians, circus artists) who wish to carry out projects in public spaces. The FAI-AR is located in La Cité des Arts in Marseille. Jean-Sébastien Steil has been the director since September 2013.
