The Seventh Meurice Prize Has Been Awarded To Mark Geffriaud

This year, the seventh Meurice Prize for contemporary art has been awarded to Mark Geffriaud. The artist, represented by the gallery gb agency, has been chosen for his project “Sketches” conceived as a diptych comprising a film and a sculpture, both in Bolivia and in Chile. At the beginning of the film, we see a pencil, trimmed, whose trimmings are sent to a laboratory for Carbon 14 analysis. It is followed by a sculpture made of graphite powder and presented between two UV filters.

“As it often does, it all starts with a pencil”, says Mark Geffriaud, “with two trajectories departing from its tip. One of them guides the development of a film, while  the other, in the other direction, goes back in time to create a sculpture”.

In competition with Hicham Berrada, Eloise Hawser, Voluspa Jarpa, Charlotte Moth and Enrique Ramirez, Mark Geffriaud and gallery gb agency received €20,000 along with the award.

Meurice Prize aims to help an emerging artist on the French scene to gain international exposure.
