30 Years Of The French Centres Chorégraphiques Nationaux

Since the mid-80's, many Centres Chorégraphiques Nationaux (CCN) have been created in France. They came into being thanks to the impressive momentum created by “New French Dance”, embodied by the audacious talent of numerous choreographers. Proactive policy, imperative for the development of dance, led to these centres for creation blossoming across the French landscape.

The mission of the CCN has gradually expanded, and thirty years later they have become a vital link in the choreographic vitality of France. The network of 19 CCN today supports a large number of “independent” choreographers, promotes the influence of dance nationally and internationally, allows audiences, from children to seniors, to practice dance in workshops and classes and of course, produces and tours dance works.

A special show was presented on February 19 at the Théâtre de Chaillot in Paris in which a number of choreographers who have marked history of these CCN presented a short "gesture". Many of them performed live.  The program featured American choreographers, such as Carolyn Carlson and Robert Swinston.

Watch the performance online here until August 28, 2015.

A plateform has also been created, retracing 30 years of CCN. You can access it here.
