New York, April 17, 2018 – Architect Peter Marino has been awarded the insignia of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by Bénédicte de Montlaur, Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy, on April 17th, 2018 in New York.
The Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) was established in 1957 to recognize eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world.
Peter Marino, FAIA, is the principal of Peter Marino Architect, the 160-person, New York-based architecture firm he founded in 1978. Marino’s work includes award-winning residential, retail, cultural, and hospitality projects worldwide. Widely regarded for his architectural and cultural contributions to France, Marino has designed flagships for Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Celine, Guerlain, the Cheval Blanc hotel in Paris’ historic La Samaritaine, residences in Paris, Cap Ferrat, St. Tropez and restorations of Château Rauzan-Segla and Château de Blérancourt. Marino has commissioned more than 300 site-specific art installations, many from celebrated contemporary French artists and is well-known for integrating art with architecture, He designed the 2010 ‘Les Lalanne’ retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and is currently planning a porcelain exhibition for the Chateau de Chantilly for 2018. Marino has received numerous prestigious industry awards including 22 citations from the American Institute of Architects for architectural design excellence. Marino was the recipient of the Museum of the City of New York’s ‘City of Design’ Award and the Trophée des Arts Award from the French Institute Alliance Française also in 2017. Marino is Chairman of the Venetian Heritage Foundation and sits on the board of International Committee of L’Union centrale des Arts Décoratifs. He holds an architecture degree from Cornell University and began his career at Skidmore Owings & Merrill, George Nelson and I.M. Pei/Cossutta & Ponte.
The Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) was established in 1957 to recognize eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world. The Order of Arts and Letters is given out three times annually under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Culture and Communication. American recipients of the award include Paul Auster, Ornette Coleman, Agnes Gund, Marilyn Horne, Jim Jarmusch, Robert Paxton, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, and Uma Thurman.
