Communications Intern

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York City is seeking a part-time Communications Intern to collaborate on social media, writing, research, and press-related projects, starting September 16, 2024.  

Responsibilities

  • Create visual/written social media content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn;
  • Social media account management and reporting;
  • Write, proof-read, and copy-edit press releases and communication materials;
  • Translate documents from French to English;
  • Research for cultural and press-related projects;
  • Website administration.

Skills and Interests

  • In-depth knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn);
  • Video, photography, graphic design, and photo editing for social media optimization;
  • Experience managing social media presence for brands or organizations;
  • Advanced writing, editing, research, and translation skills;
  • Knowledge and/or curiosity about French and American cultural and educational landscapes;
  • Knowledge of the French and American media landscapes;
  • Familiarity with frequently used software: Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, iMovie, Muck Rack, Sprout Social, Mailchimp, and/or WordPress.

Candidates should be highly motivated self-starters who work well as a team and are organized, proactive, dedicated, and conscientious.

Language Requirements

  • French (reading, speaking, writing): Intermediate/Advanced
  • English (reading, speaking, writing): Bilingual/Native speaker

Eligibility

This position is open to students enrolled full-time at American colleges and universities. Please note that we cannot accept candidates who have already graduated from university; high school students; or students who require a visa to work in the United States.

The Communications Intern will work 3 days/week for a total of 20 hours/week. A mutually convenient weekly schedule will be determined on the candidate’s start date.

The Intern must be based in or near New York City and available for frequent in-person meetings at 972 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY.

Please note that this is an unpaid position, but we are happy to work with the selected candidate to secure school credit.
